Basketball and Bowling

Ken took time out of his aristocratic astronaut itinerary to come down to socal. It was good seeing him again. We stole Scott’s basketball, drove to our old elementary school, climbed the fence and shot free throws. We shot 100 free throws each, to be exact. I’ve never been a good basketball player so I had nothing to lose, but Ken was a starting guard for the Whitney High School JV basketball team back in 9th grade. I made 26 out of 100 and Ken made 30 out 100. Getting into a good rythm was hard, especially when we had to switch after every 10 attempts. Chasing after rebounds (and airballs) was not sexy but I think Ken and I found a new activity for the guys to do when we meet up again in July.

We went bowling afterwards. For a flat fee of $17.25 a person we got to bowl all we wanted for 2 hours. I think we bowled around 10 games. We didn’t keep score for the first 9 but we played the final game for all the marbles. The Supreme Championship of the Universe was at stake. Thankfully, I won 146 to 127. No one cares if Ken won the 9 previous games because it’s all about being clutch when the Supreme Championship of the Universe is on the line. Oh yeah, Tina and Doris showed up too but they didn’t stay long.

Afterwards, we drove around Cerritos looking for somewhere to hang out. That failed with the quickness so Ken bought some beer and drank it in my car outside his house. Then the talking began and NO ONE WAS SPARED!!!!! HAHAHA!!!

The best part of the day was when I won $2 from a lottery scratcher game. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever won one of those. Another highlight was when I surprsied Ken with my knowledge of American pop culture, like when I sang that part of that one song by D12. I’m a patriot!

Is there shame in being sore after shooting 100 free throws, chasing after rebounds of 100 free throw attempts and bowling 100 frames?
