lovelykitsune.com and the quest for stardom

So I found a blog in my referrer logs that has a very similar “style” compared to mine. A part of me thinks I’m overreacting and everything is one giant coincidence. I should just forget about the whole thing and move on. In theory, I’m not bothered by such trivial matters. In practice, however, seeing a blog that someone else wrote that tries to look and read like something that I would come up with is a very uncomfortable feeling.

I try to be as original as possible. I do my best to stay away from other anime blogs so that I wouldn’t “take someone else’s material” on purpose or on accident. Of course, this doesn’t mean that everything that I write is completely orignial, far from it. I also don’t take material I’ve seen somewhere else and transplant it directly on my site.

I think what got my attention was a combination of factors. It mostly deals with the way the articles are written, but that could be overlooked for any number of reasons because, well, shit happens. The deal clincher was that my site was listed as one of the many links. With that said, there’s still a cloud of doubt looming over this whole situation. Maybe this person copied someone else. Maybe this person thinks and writes like me (That’s a scary thought).

I admit that I can be a bit egocentric at times and I vigorously toot my own horn, so I can’t help but to think that maybe this person got his inspirations from my site. Imitation can be flattering but I also don’t want to be on the receiving end of an email from someone accusing me of copying blahblahblah’s awesome blog. That would fucking suck.

In the end, this is just a meaningless rant based on the manifestation of my paranoia. I don’t care if the owner of the blog in question reads this. I also don’t care if he continues what he’s doing. If he is not copying my “style,” then I sincerely apologize. If he is, just know that my shit still is, and always will be, better than yours.

I don’t want to end on such a sour note so I’ll change the subject completely.

lovelykitsune.com facts and other meaningless tripe

- My links page is basically blank, save for a few LJs and blogs that my real life friends own. This is because I vehemently opposed being labelled as an anime blog and refused to have any part of that culture. I don’t really fight it anymore, but I’m also not rushing to post links to such sites. I’ve also been meaning to separate my anime entries from my personal ones. Most of my real life friends don’t read my site anymore, which makes me sad.

- I have never advertised my site to anyone, ever. Strangers and random visitors have taken it upon themselves to do so but I never knew about it until I checked the access logs.

- I’m not really an Internet Celebrity. Very few people know about my site (see above). I don’t think I’m even in the top 50th percentile of most read English anime blogs. It also doesn’t help that I’m not very…
1) informative
2) fast (Mahoraba is still stuck on episode 14)
3) diverse in viewing habits (other blogs can churn out entries for 15 different shows a week, I write about 1 or 2 at most and I can’t even do that right)

- I can do a great Kozue (from Mahoraba) imitation. I also do an excellent Raine (from UFO Princess Walkure). Last time I checked, I’m still a guy.

- I think I’ve gotten legit emails from like 4 people regarding my site. Everyone else asks me where they can download…
1) The Osaka Simulator (春日歩の通販生活)
2) free anime (AIR and Marimite seem to be popular among leeches)
3) the Marimite live action porno movie
all of which I promptly delete without replying.

- I was supposed to write about the following shows and had nice little gimmicks planned out for them, but I never got around to them for one reason or another…
1) Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha - Super Fun True or False quiz for every entry, but I couldn’t get past the first episode
2) Genshiken – I was supposed make witty comparisons about what they do to my own life but I started watching the show 8 weeks into the season
3) Gakuen Alice – In spirit of my love for the Simpsons, all entries were supposed to be written without using words that contain the letter “e”. That’s pretty hard considering that Natsume and “Alice” were 2 important parts of the show. I’ll probably implement this idea for some other show in the near future.
4) Futakoi Alternative – No gimmicks involved, just straight up award-winning journalism. Too bad that this show fucking sucked, and not in the good way that I can make good entires out of. In some ways, it’s even worse than the original Futakoi. I can write an entire entry as to why this show sucked, but I’ll save that for later.

- I’m currently planning on writing entries for Da Capo 2nd Season because Nemu is finally back. Let’s see if I ever get around to that.

- If you have any questions feel free to contact me, but no one rarely ever does.
