Random thoughts 1-7-2008

The Chargers won yesterday by 11 points. That means that they covered the spread and that makes me happy. But then I saw this in the ESPN.com recap of the game.

Just like that, the nightmares of the Marty Schottenheimer era finally went away.

What is this guy talking about? They’re back to exactly where they were last year. They’re in the second round of the playoffs, but this time they actually had to win a game to get there because they lost too many games during the regular season to get a bye week. Now, they’re on the road against a clearly superior team. At the end of the day, they still have Norv Turner masturbating on the sidelines. Is that really that much better than having Schottenheimer there? Winning a game is definitely nice but not when it means that you’re in a worse situation than you were in last year. I’d rather have the bye week and take my chances at home.

Have fun losing by 21 points.

It’s funny how the media can spin things to suit their needs.

American Gladiators 2008

Here are a few thoughts on the new American Gladiators on NBC

  • Hulkamania is dead. Bring back Larry Csonka!
  • Gladiators aren’t supposed to talk. Please don’t mic them.
  • The contestants aren’t supposed to talk, either. Especially when the Gladiators have 12 inches and 80 pounds on them.
  • Why must every event be played over a pool of water? This isn’t Nickelodeon.
  • The video editing (like showing someone fall off the platform from three different angles in quick succession) has gots to go.
  • I only saw the second hour, but why did they do the women’s Eliminator last? And why did both of them suck so much?
