RSF Gathering & Video games

I went to a small gathering of RSF/Cross Coutry people at BJ’s in Cerritos last night. I saw 2/3 of the Phat Posse for the first time in years. I saw the usual crew and we did the usual shit.

There was a conversation about playing video games and landing chix0rs last night. I thought about my current situation and I found myself playing games a lot less now. I download new games once in a while, yet I’m not playing them. They get archived onto CDs and they never see the light of day. Let’s take a look at my backlog.

- Mahoromatic Adventure
- Green Green
- Da Capo
- Da Capo: White Season
- Po Po Tan
- Galaxy Angel: Moonlit Lovers
- Sister Princess
- Sister Princess II
- Sister Princess: Pure Stories
- And a whole lot more

Three years ago, I’d skip school, not do homework and play all those games without any hesitation. The word backlog was nonexistant in my limited vocabulary (video games do that to you). The games mentioned above aren’t the mainstream ones either. They’re either ero-ero games or bad games based on bad anime, all imported from Japan. The last time I played a new and popular (American release) game was over 3 years ago when I bought Half-Life to play Counterstrike**. This means that I’ve been out of touch with normal people AND normal American gamers. I’ve been living in my own Barbie world and I didn’t care. Thankfully, that’s behind me now. Hooray.

So yeah, now I play a SNES or NES game or two for an hour, once a week. I also fiddle around in training mode in Marvel once in a while. I guess it’s true. You can grow out of video games. However, there’s that whole 4n1m3 thing that I do, which is not very sexy at all. I think I can blame that on keeping my Japanese skills sharp. SMRT, eh? This leads me to wonder how I waste all my time now. I think RSF is guilty of that crime. Damn you RSF for being so sexily fun and addicting!

** I’m not counting Marvel for 2 reasons
1. It’s a very small underground community (i.e. not popular or mainstream)
2. I made friends and met lots of cool people in my Marvel playing days, so it helped if anything, which is the opposite of what games are supposed to do.

Richard, you still have my Half-Life CD!
