Astros lose

Notice how I didn’t say that the White Sox won. Don’t get me wrong, Chicago played great (and would have won eventually since they are the better team) but how do you go scoreless over 18 straight innings and leave like 173 men on base? Yeah, great pitching, I know… but this is very bad for baseball, in my opinion. Exciting postseasons have been one of the very few (possibly the only) positives for the sport in the last 5 years. Two consecutive sweeps in the World Series is the last thing that the game needs. Despite all this, I can take comfort with the fact that the 4 games have been very close. Houston could very well be up 3-1 had the breaks gone their way. It’s a pity that no one gave a shit about this series because of the teams involved.

I think baseball needs two things. One is instant replay. The other is a revamped and expanded playoff format that increases the amount of postseason games played before the World Series, where the most exciting games seem to occur. The latter is just a personal wet dream of mine (I explained my potential playoff format to friends with varying degrees of acceptance). The former is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

I’d also like to take this time to confess that I stayed home instead of going out to dinner with friends to watch game 3 and The Amazing Race (which I missed most of thanks to the game) last night. I’m confident that my friends don’t read my site so no worries from me.

Now that the World Series is over, lk.com will be back to business as usual. I have 12 episodes of DCSS to watch.
